The 'Cam' Camwell Collection W.A. 'Cam' Camwell was one of the most active members of the railway enthusiast community during the 1950s and 1960s - the period during which British Railways moved from steam to diesel and electric traction and many railway lines and branches passed into history. His membership of the Stephenson Locomotive Society led him to organising many tours of threatened or interesting railway lines and he enthusiastically recorded as much of the railway network as possible, both in photographs and on 16mm cine film. The latter forms the basis of this series of programmes, as 'Cam' filmed many remote and obscure lines as well as interesting developments on the main lines.

Vol.3: Railways of East Anglia and South East England

The South of England was dominated by the Southern and Western Regions of British Railways, but "Cam's" coverage of this part of the country includes visits to East Anglia as well. From Cambridge to Dover, on to Southampton and the Isle-of-Wight then along the coast to Devon and Cornwall he visited and filmed many railways which have changed or disappeared altogether including the Framlingham branch, the Midland and Great Northern, Canterbury and Whitstable Railway, the Hayling Island branch, Island lines to Freshwater and Cowes, the Somerset & Dorset, the Lyme Regis branch, the Kingsbridge branch, lines around Newquay - most featuring many locomotives which traced their ancestry back to the pre-Grouping Companies such as Adams's O2 0-4-4Ts, Dean Goods, a "Star", S & D 7F 2-8-0s, LBSCR D3 0-4-4Ts. More modern ones such as "Kings, "Castles" and Bulleid Pacifics also get a look in. These are just some of the locomotives covered in this volume.
